He unquestionably will plead insanity when the case comes up for trial We know of no other defense that could save him and it’s doubtful that one will .. Mayor Ralph Hanna revealed just yesterday that he and Police Chief Alton Cobb spent a mighty uncomfortable, restless night on the night Barnes was in the Dunn jail... Feeling ran high and two or three very angry citizens begged the police to let y xn see Barnes alone for a fev. - Rites... They apparently meant \s, too Extra precautons ( taken to see that nobody got to the prisoner . Incidentally, one of our Indians friends phoned a few days ago to protest our reference to Barnes as a “half-breed.” Actually that’s what he is .. According to his own statement to Chief Cobb ...His mother is an Indian his father is a white man .. But pointed out our Indian friend, the term “half breed” isn’t nice and Indians re sent it We have no apologies so far as Barnes is concerned, but we certainly had no intention of of fending the many splendid Ind ian citizens of this section, and we are glad the matter was called to our attention.. . .It was interesting to see how Federal Judge Don Gil liam dealt with local bootleggers in his court last week Most of them got heavy fines—ranging up to $3,000 —and others were sent to prison Had the same defendants been tried in Dunn’s court, they might have gotten as much as a $25 fine and a suspended sentence, o! maybe just a lecture and the court costs ...So, it just goes to show it doesn’t pay to get caught by the Federal agents... .Mr. and Mrs. Thurman Ennis have been down in Fayetteville, Tenn. visit ing her family Some of the same entertainers who performed the “Miss North Carolina” pageant in Burlington last year will per form at the “Miss Dunn” pageant here next week Tickets for the extravaganza are now on sale at the Chamber of Commerce office here...
